EPA establishes an AQI for five major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act. Each of these pollutants has a national air quality standard set by EPA to protect public health. H2S: Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless gas with the odor of rotten eggs. The most common sources of H2S emissions are oil and natural gas extraction and processing, and natural emissions from geothermal fields.
